The captain led the ship off course causing a traumatic accident. He violated many of the ship’s rules and regulations. He not only disobeyed the law, but he also violated a sacred maritime tradition: a captain should be the last to leave his ship. He hopped on a life boat and took off as the ship was sinking.  He was then placed under house arrest, accused of causing the disaster and leaving the ship before he got everyone out.
